Club News

We our experiencing our best year for five years, membership is growing and the growth of our club continues.  We have you, the members, to thank for your support and loyalty during the downturn in the current climate.

As the new era in Richmond Park begins we are hoping to get the buzz back in the club.  We have new people with fantastic ideas to help us all move forward in making us one of the premier golf clubs in Norfolk.

The shop will be stocking new brands of equipment, we will be able to offer members far more choice and quality equipment at competitive  prices; we have custom fit options on all new products, and if we don’t have what you want, just ask.  We have now secured a new retail contract, enabling us access to all golf products.

In the clubhouse you will also see a suggestion box which we hope you use for the benefit of all, we welcome any suggestions from you, our valued members, to improve our club.

We have secured two valuable assets to our club, namely tour professional Keith Capindale-Scott and PGA professional Martin Clark.  Keith will be representing our club in all his events and we are excited about watching his career progress.  In the shop you will also see a complete coaching service offered by Keith’s golf school; he has also begun a junior academy which is every Saturday from 1:30pm until 2:30pm.

As well as his coaching skills, Keith has great knowledge on up to date equipment to help you, the golfer, to lower your scores.

We hope you have noticed the improvement to our course, we were pleased with the positive comments we heard during the club championship.  We would like to thank our green staff for their fine work, especially after the horrendous storms we experienced .

We would like to enlarge our junior section, thus as from July 2009, we will be offering free junior membership to any child under 15 whose parent has a full golf membership.  The youth of today are the club’s continued future.

During these warm summer nights Keith will be arranging a Wednesday night 9 hole scramble; all are welcome to play, the cost is £6.00 per 3-man team.  The winning team takes all. It’s going to be a social night, tee off 6 pm shotgun start; don’t miss the fairway as its three off the tee, choose any drive , so if your team members miss get the wedge out!!!!.

Hopefully this will be the start of many new things for members to enjoy; new and exciting times are ahead for your club.  We look forward to your support of these new events.

P.S. We would like to reassure our members that course marshalling will take place on a regular basis; with this in mind we please ask that bag tags , green fee tags and corporate tags are displayed at all times.

Thank you!

Simon’s Say

It has been a fantastic start to the summer , the weather has been great, which is a nice change from the last 2 years.  This has certainly helped the course which looks in good nick, despite the one colossal storm of 4 weeks ago.  As you are aware  July 1st is membership renewal which appears to have been very successful from the early signs.  We have had  a number of new members join during April and May , thus membership levels remain strong.  You may have seen there is a jukebox in the bar. This is something  that Dick has always wanted and so  he has kindly donated it to the club.  It will stand dormant for the vast majority of the time and will only be used on occasional evenings, it will certainly save money on hiring live bands for some special occasions.  The first of these will be on the 24th July which will be a 60’s night. Posters are up in the bar with full details.

So far as the course is concerned we have invested in two new pieces of machinery, a new greens mower and tee mower.  We have also purchased some vibrating roller attachments for the greens machine.  I think these have made a real difference to the standard of our greens; expect further improvements as the summer progresses.

Also you will see some drainage work completed on the 4th and 5th fairways as well as the 4th green; this work was carried out by Bury Turf Care whom I can now highly recommend; the work was done with great precision  and minimal disruption.

Thank you for your continued  support, have a great golfing summer.

Simon

Message from the pro

Hello to you all, some of you I have met and had the pleasure of playing a round of golf with.

I am looking forward to meeting you all, come and introduce yourself, if you need advice or just want a chat.  I will always be available to you, the members of Richmond Park golf club, as well as to our welcome visitors.  Who knows, your best golf may just be a handshake away.

I am very proud and happy to represent your club whilst playing on the various tours I compete on, you will often see me on the range or practising on the course, so why not come and say hi and maybe play a few holes.

I would like to thank the Jessup family for their attachment and also I would like to thank the many club members for their kind and welcoming comments, I look forward to being a part of the new exciting chapter of Richmond Park’s future development. Hopefully I can add to the clubs future; be assured I will give the club my all, both on and off the golf course.  My contact details are in the golf shop.

All the very best to you all and may the golfing gods be with you!!!

Keith.

Club championship results

Wow what a finish!  It couldn’t have been closer, coming down the last Gary Ward had a 2 stroke advantage standing on the 18th tee over Kevin Bloomfield.

Gary hit off with his favourite 5 wood, but pulled his tee shot left, Kevin sensed his chance, and struck his tee shot; it was perfect, right in the middle of the fairway.

Gary fortunately found his tee shot, it was a long way away but he went for the green, he struck it perfectly, but couldn’t see where it ended. Kevin hit his second, short and right of the green.

After searching Gary couldn’t find his ball, so he went back and hit again, it was too late.  Kevin played a lovely up and down for par, winning by 1 stroke.  It was a sad finish for Gary but I know he will bounce back; look out for him next year.

The one thing I enjoyed more than watching you guys play was the fantastic sportsmanship you both showed when under the highest pressure, you are both a credit to your club.

GOLF COACHING and SWING TIPS

In the golf swing one of the key thoughts I have is to keep my elbows level throughout the movement of the swing.  If you have less moving  parts in the swing, the plane of it, is far easier to stay on track, thus enabling you to be more repetitive which gives you consistent contact and results.

I use lots of muscle memory drills in my own practice and my students also train their swings with drills which enable us to not  have so many swing thoughts whilst playing the game of golf.

The thought I like to promote is to let the club just do what it wants, because the release will be a natural one.  Try swinging with a heavy club and you will feel how the club does what it wants to do, the club swings us and our arms are in control of our body movement.  The golf club passes us and we follow, Its why they call it a golf swing all we do is swing our arms, and our body and shoulder react to the arms.

Putting

The art of putting is a law unto itself.  How do we, the golfer, make more putts?  My thoughts are not to worry about the result too much, what do I mean by that I hear you ask!!  Well I try not to think of the consequences, I  just think about the process, which is collecting the information, namely the speed and roll. I have the correct information so I feel positive of the result.  I don’t think how, I just do, visualising the ball going into the hole.  Keep to your routine, especially on those short putts.  Relax and breathe after all golf is what it is, it’s just a game.

Junior results

Our junior team have had a great start to their season, they have played two games and won both of them.

I have been very impressed with the way James has captained his side, each member of his team have played some lovely golf, and I can see a lot more  improvement on the horizon.

If I could give one word of advice it would be to remember that golf is a game to be played, you will never master it, enjoy your successes and learn by your mistakes. Golf is the game of life, we grow and we learn, thus we improve.

JUNIOR ACADEMY

In a very short time I have seen some fantastic improvements in all my students.  Both girls and boys have given me great concentration and are mastering their individual drills.  Already I am able to put together a team capable of competing against our illustrious junior team, I look forward to seeing how they compare against each other.

The academy is open to all juniors of any age, its great to see parents there supporting their children.

During the school holidays I hope to encourage all my students to play on the course once they are at that level, some have already  improved well enough to obtain a handicap, and in some cases lower their handicap by a substantial amount.  I am honoured to teach you guys and I thank you for all your commitment and hard work.

We look forward to meeting new members and maybe we can find a Tiger Woods or a Natalie Gulbis; I  am very excited about the talent I have seen, in the junior section.

Staff Profile

Amy is a valued member of our catering staff.  She is a huge asset to the club.

Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, going to the cinema, shopping and generally having a laugh.  I love listening to music and going to music festivals.

I try to keep active with swimming and golf, but also enjoy relaxing at home after a hard day's work, tracing my family tree; but most of all I enjoy a lie-in !!!!

Kyle is a fantastic lad and a great little chef, we appreciate all his hard work.

When I am not working I enjoy hanging out with my friends and walking in the great Norfolk countryside, I also love to visit the beach in all seasons.

On Sundays I have a kick-about with my friends.

I like listening to music and go to some events.  My main interest is VW cars and I attend regular meets and shows.
